Workshop: Caregiving for the Person with Dementia
August 7th
10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Robson Ranch Clubhouse Ballroom
Program speakers provided from the Alzheimer’s Association
Understanding and Responding to Dementia-Related Behavior – Nelly Garcia
This program aims to help caregivers decipher behaviors and determine how best to respond. Through practical information, resources, and interviews with experts, this program will help caregivers to address the challenges of dementia-related behavior.
Effective Communication – Kathy Stamm
Individuals living with dementia often experience changes in behavior that can be confusing to friends and family. For caregivers, learning to decode messages through attitude, tone of voice, facial expressions and body language can help both parties to connect and communicate in meaningful ways
Alzheimer’s Medications – Amie Blaszczyk
What are the currently accepted medications? New pharmaceuticals are being trialed often. What about supplements? Are there natural resources that help? Learn from a pharmacist.
Starting at 9 a.m. booths with services specific to working with the elderly and those with dementia, will be available to discuss resources available in the area. This will include organizations that can provide in-home health services, facilities with day-care or respite care, medical supplies to aid in care, and resources to help find resources.
Respite care will be provided onsite by Kind Companions, with prior reservation. For reservation for care, call: 940-382-7548. Deadline for reservation is Aug. 2nd.
